Ragamuffin production up for Rock Album of the Year

In Dec 1999, Rick Elias and Mark Robertson were contacted by Rhythm House to produce a new record called Worthless Pursuit of Things on the Earth for Chris Taylor. Some of you may remember Chris from his band Love Coma (Matt Slocum from Sixpence None the Richer was also in that band). You can read more about Chris on his web page at christaylorworld.com. While you are there, be sure to check out Chris' journal entry, "the making of worthless pursuit."

The Gospel Music Association's 32nd annual Dove Award nominations were announced a couple weeks ago, and Worthless Pursuit was nominated for Rock Album of the Year along with Petra, Guardian, The O.C. Supertones, and Tree63. For a full list of the Dove Award nominees, go to www.doveawards.com. In case you didn't already know, the producers win the Dove if the album wins. Be sure and watch April 26, 2001.

I'm prejudiced since Rick and Mark are two of my favorite producers, but I love this CD. If have to compare it to another group, Vigilantes of Love would probably be the closest. The entire Ragamuffin Band is involved with this CD - including Jordan Richter recording and mixing, Kevin Robertson (Mark's brother and tour manager) as recording assistant, A-Train Aaron Smith on drums (it was recorded last year before he retired from the group), Jimmy A on guitar, Mark on bass/vocals, and Rick on guitar/organ/vocals. Chris' vocals rock (almost reminds me of Mark a little) and his lyrics show a maturity and honesty similar to Mike Roe (77's), who was involved with Chris as producer in his early career. The title track is definitely CHR hit material. Check it out.
